The Metro are reporting that Chelsea are looking to sign promising Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila.
Blues boss Andre-Villas Boas is believed to have turned his attentions to the Frenchman after original target Joao Moutinho was deemed too expensive.
He wanted the Porto midfielder to join him at Stamford Bridge but the Portuguese midfielders £30 million asking price was considered too expensive.
M’Vila has now emerged as his Villas-Boas new target as he continues the hunt for Michael Essien’s replacement.
The Ghanaian is out of action for six months after suffering another knee injury and the Chelsea boss wants some new blood to cover the loss.
Reservations over the ability of Jon Obi-Mikel and Ramires to operate in the deep lying role that Essien excels in has caused Villas-Boas to look for cover elsewhere.
He see’s the 21-year-old France midfielder as a good long-term prospect but also someone who could also slot straight into the team with ease.
Rennes have already stated that their star is not for sale after he attracted the interests of Arsenal and Liverpool earlier this summer.
Despite this Chelsea believe they can land their man and are prepared to test the Ligue 1 club with a £15 million bid for M’Vila.
